Optimist Club Academic Scholarships ...

Each year the Optimist Club of Coronado awards academic scholarships to selected Coronado High School seniors. The Optimist Club has over 100 members and has served the Coronado community since 1970. This year the Optimist Club awarded scholarships in three categories. Each scholarship is worth $2000.

The NJROTC Scholarship went to Pita Lopez. Pita held many leadership positions during her four years as a cadet including Commander of the Color Guard which earned second place in 2019 regional competition. 

The Scout Scholarship was awarded to Emily Mowry. Emily has been a Girl Scout for 12 years and earned the Gold Award, Girl Scouting’s highest award, for outstanding service to her school and her community.

The Optimist International Organization includes a Junior Optimist Club: the Octagon Club. This year the President of the Coronado High School Octagon Club was Cole Mullins. In addition, Cole has held many posts and offices in the Optimist International District # 41 SOCAL including Governor. Cole is also the 2019-2020 President of Junior Optimist International. Under his leadership 1400 new international members were gained and new clubs established in the Netherlands and Uganda. Cole is the recipient of the 2020 Optimist Club of Coronado Octagon Club Scholarship.
