New Spreckels Center Adult Programs For October

Unleash your creative genius, enjoy an Oktoberfest Brewery Hop, get back on the trails and more this fall season.

Flower Design: On Monday, Oct. 5, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., students will learn how to transform a pumpkin into a beautiful base for roses, marigolds, mums, coffee berry, amaranths and sword fern adorned with Halloween accessories, or an autumn-inspired ribbon. The class costs $35 for Coronado residents and $45 for nonresidents, plus a $25 materials fee payable to the instructor on the day of class. Next classes are Nov. 4 and Dec. 16.

Creative Writing Class: “Everybody Has a Story” creative writing class will be held on Wednesdays, from Oct. 2-30, from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Learn how to turn your memories into tender and tantalizing tales. Cost is $48 for residents/$60 for nonresidents.

Calligraphy: Enjoy a two-hour calligraphy class on Mondays, Oct. 7-28, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. No prior experience is necessary. Cost: $45 for residents/ $56 for nonresidents and includes some supplies.

Brewery Tour: Saturday, Oct. 5, from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. join in the Oktoberfest Brewery Hop to get behind-the-scenes tours of how beer is brewed at the Ballast Point and Duck Foot breweries in Miramar. Participants will get six, four ounce tastings and a Ballast Point Brewery commemorative tasting glass. The cost is $50 for Coronado residents and $63 for nonresidents. Transportation provided by the Spreckels Center Staff. Lunch is not included. Limited seats available. Sign up today.

Trails and Ales: Monday, Oct. 21, hit the trails at Lake Calavera in the Carlsbad Highlands. This approximately 3.5-mile trail is suitable for all hiking levels. A visit and respite post hike at Barrel Republic will provide opportunity for participants to purchase lunch and brews. This trip departs at 8 a.m. and returns at approximately 2:45 p.m. Cost is only $55 for residents and $59 for nonresidents.
