Students from Silver Strand Elementary, Christ Church Day School and Sacred Heart Parish School have participated in and enjoyed musical presentations, both educational and entertaining, this past week. Musica Vitale, Coronado’s professional vocal ensemble, toured the schools and offered a one-hour program of enrichment and fun for grades three through six.

This is the third year the traveling musical group has offered this program. The presentation, different each year, has covered the history of music, emotions in music, and this year, the different elements of music. The program includes give and take with the singers and students, sing-alongs and using vocal music to educate and inspire.

Students were introduced to operatic songs in French, Italian and English, from “Peter Pan,” “Romeo and Juliet,” and “Suzanne,” as well as show tunes, pop songs of various eras, and ethnic selections.

Musica Vitale, under the directorship of Elena Vizuet, is always a hit with the children, and principals and music teachers continue to ask the group back for the following year. The group provides these programs free of cost to all Coronado school children, through a grant from the city.

Though the school performances generally include four to six singers, the full ensemble of Musica Vitale numbers closer to twenty members. They perform in various locales in Coronado and San Diego throughout the year. Samples of their work can be found at their website,
