It’s time for the annual Lorton Surf Fest which will be held on Saturday, Nov. 30 at the Coronado Shores Beach. This competition is open for all ages and has an adaptive surfing division as well. There will also be an expression session for people who want to participate in a non competitive way in open surfing, stand up paddle, boogie boarding, etc. The Lorton Surf Fest will run from 7 a.m. to about noon.

Later that evening, beginning at 5 p.m. and the VFW, 557 Orange Avenue, there will be a dinner and award ceremony, with music, amazing raffle prizes and a taco truck. Sign ups, raffle tickets and extra dinner tickets can all be purchased online at www.coronadosurfingassociation.com.

Lorton Mitchell, who the Surf Fest was named after, was a man of many pleasures, but the ocean was a special haven for the busy father, husband, brother, friend, and owner of Lorton Mitchell Custom Homes. He lived life by reminding himself and others to “focus on the positive” and when Lorton was at the beach, that philosophy really came to life in the way he shared the surfing experience with others. He always saw the best in what was in front of him.

Proceeds from this annual fundraiser benefits the Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma Research Foundation, the Coronado Surfing Association’s Surfing Scholars Program, as well as the organization’s year round focus on building community, improving the environment and supporting a healthy love of surfing through competition.
