The upcoming 2019 IRONMAN 70.3 Superfrog triathlon will take place on Sunday, Sept. 15 in Imperial Beach and run up and back along the Silver Strand to the Silver Strand State Beach.

This will be the 41st edition of the longest running half-distance triathlon in the world. This family-friendly race will serve as a charity fundraising event, with $35 of each general entry and relay entry fee being donated back to the IRONMAN Foundation to support their charitable efforts, including their backing of The Navy Seal Foundation.

Hosted in Imperial Beach, families can get away and enjoy the sunny relaxed vibes of a beach-oriented community with a safe and small-town atmosphere described as “Classic Southern California.”

One of more than 110 events in the global IRONMAN 70.3 Series, the IRONMAN 70.3 Superfrog triathlon will begin with a two-loop swim in the waves of the beautiful Pacific Ocean, with a 100-meter run in between each loop. Athletes will then embark on a flat, four-loop, 56-mile bike course that runs along the scenic Imperial Beach and its community, including the breathtaking Silver Strand. The race concludes with a four-loop run mirroring the beach runs that Navy SEALS perform in training. More than half the course will consist of sand with aid stations along the way, and a beautiful view of Tijuana Hills at the southern point. A dynamic finish line awaits as athletes round the iconic “Imperial Beach” sculpture, “Surfhenge,” to finish on the grassy surface of Pier Plaza. This coastal family-friendly event throughout the pleasant oceanside of California is sure to become a tourist location for all triathlon athletes.

Participants who finished the 2019 IRONMAN 70.3 Oceanside triathlon earlier this year can earn a third medal upon finishing the 2019 IRONMAN 70.3 Superfrog triathlon -- the SoCal Challenge medal highlights the two classic events in San Diego County.

IRONMAN 70.3 Superfrog will offer 40 qualifying slots to the 2020 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in Taupō, New Zealand. The IRONMAN 70.3 Superfrog triathlon will also be offering 12 military qualifying slots for the 2020 IRONMAN World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawai`i and an additional three military qualifying slots for the Service Academy division (top male and female) and Navy SEAL division (top athlete).
