The 2021 Lorton Mitchell Memorial Surf Fest is happening on Saturday, Nov. 27 at Shipwreck Beach from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be a surfing division for all ages, including and the annual non-competitive “Expression Session” for the whole community to paddle into. There will also be several competitive heats for adaptive surfers in addition to the surf divisions. There is an optional awards dinner party that eventing held at the VFW Hall on 557 Orange Avenue beginning at 5 p.m. with dinner, music, beverages (complimentary beer while it lasts and no-host bar) and an amazing silent auction, and of course, recognition of the day’s competitors.
It’s a fundraiser and a friend-raiser and we’re excited to keep our annual tradition going. Come join! With registration, participants will receive entry into the contest, a T-shirt, breakfast (while supplies last); prizes throughout the day; an evening dinner ticket; Emerald City Tent with a prize wheel; event swag bag courtesy of Emerald City; and trophy recognition awards for the top six competitors in each division.
Proceeds from this annual fundraiser benefits the Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma Research Foundation, the Coronado Surfing association’s Surfing Scholars Program, as well as the organization’s year-round focus on their Three Waves of Engagement: community, environment and sportsmanship.
