Nicolette Renee Groen & LTJG Luke Joseph Hoffmann

Families in Coronado and Houston celebrated the engagement of Nicolette and Luke with at-home parties for friends and family. Wedding plans await the return of Luke from an overseas assignment.

The couple met as students at Rice University where both graduated in 2016. (Luke is a 2012 alum of Coronado High School.) At Rice, Nicolette majored in Mathematical Economic Analysis and Management Studies. She is currently employed as an Investment Banking Senior Analyst in Citigroup’s Global Energy Group. In August she will join Compass Equity in Irvine. Luke majored in Materials Science and NanoEngineering. He graduated with a Navy commission and went directly to active duty.

Nicolette, a Houston native, is the daughter of Angelica Altinger-Groen and Dr. Alfred Groen. He is an anesthesiologist at Methodist Hospital, Houston. Her grandparents are Hans Altinger of Houston, and Aytie Groen of the Netherlands.

Luke’s parents are Commanders Dick and Paige Hoffmann, both USN retired. She now works for the Navy as a civilian engineer, and he is a senior civilian at Naval Special Warfare Command. Luke’s grandparents are Dennis and Rita Kohli of Pensacola, Florida, also Navy folks, and Mary Beth Hoffmann of Dallas, Texas.

The Hoffmann clan is well known in Coronado. Luke, his twin brother Nate, and their sisters Maude and Chloe were active in sports at Coronado High School. The boys are avid surfers. All four are moving into unique and very diverse technical careers. Nate recently married his CHS classmate, Louise Wilson, the granddaughter of Coronado Navy families. They all look forward to adding Nicolette to their active family life.
