Ayona Hudson of Southwestern College (SWC) is the 2020 recipient of the Coronado Democratic Club’s $500 John F. Kennedy Scholarship. Hudson is a political science major with a 3.44 GPA. Her volunteer work in promoting inclusion and equity at Southwestern as well as her work with the homeless student population makes her an outstanding candidate for any award.
She is Vice-President of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion for the Associated Students
Organization and was awarded the college “Equity Champion Award”.
While homeless herself, she is the SWC liaison for South Bay Community Services for homeless youth and helps to find housing for others. She views her hardships as “…temporary struggles…helping me grow as a person and as a scholar.”
The Coronado Democratic Club is collecting new or used laptops or tablets to distribute to students in need for online classes. Over 80 percent of SWC students qualify for financial aid. Since social distancing requires on-line classes, many of these students find themselves unable to continue.
They need our help.
If you have a donation, we will make arrangements to pick it up, sanitize it, and get the technology to students in need.
If you can help, please contact Patti Flores-Charter, Faculty Emeritus, Southwestern College, firstname.lastname@example.org.
