San Diego’s month long Fleet Week festivities kick off in Coronado with “Strike Up the Band!” Coronado Playhouse, the Community’s Theatre, hosts this one night only entertainment event Sunday Sept. 13 featuring some of our best singers and musicians celebrating the military through music. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with curtain at 7 p.m. The evening begins with the national anthem and a patriotic showing of colors by the Air Force ROTC Detachment 075 Honor Guard from San Diego State University.

This community cabaret is filled with a “Yankee Doodle Dandy” line up of performers including Neal Sullivan, Sarah LeClair Klacka, Hourie Klijian, Julie McKane, Amanda Everett, Gabby Nelson, Lisa Ritz, Frank Remiatte, Kristy Connard, Jennie Gray Connard, Meredith Russo, Alisa Crandall Williams, Rob Johnston, Dee Ann Johnston, Laurel Widmer, Tiffany Loui and Debbie David with Master of Ceremonies M.G. Perez. Musical Director Kirk Valles leads the band which will accompany the program of classic favorites, some of Broadway’s best and a good old fashioned USO variety show.

Coronado Playhouse continues its tradition of partnering with a community organization to help those in need. “Strike Up The Band!” benefits San Diego Armed Services YMCA, the leading non-profit organization committed to making military life easier for thousands of active duty service members and their families. Founded in 1920 as a national affiliate of the YMCA, the San Diego ASY provides programs to help military members and their families in mind, body, and spirit.
