The Coronado Democratic Club invites you to its general meeting on Nov. 2, in the Coronado Library, Winn Room, 640 Orange Avenue, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The guest speaker is Geneviéve Jones-Wright, an activist in the Criminal Justice Reform Movement. She is an attorney, Legal Director of PANA (Partnership for the Advancement of New Americans). She is Vice President of the Earl B. Gilliam Bar Association, a volunteer attorney for the California Innocence Project, and an adjunct Professor at Point Loma Nazarene University. Jones-Wright will discuss our failed mass incarceration experiment of the past several decades and the current criminal justice system reform movement.

We, as a nation, succumbed to the fear mongering of the “lock ‘em up” crowd and the scare tactics of the “tough on crime” advocates and forgot that it makes more sense to be “smart on crime.” Mass incarceration is a threat to democracy and to our stability in that it creates a prison class of disenfranchised voters, destroys offenders and families, and undermines faith in our justice system. Jones-Wright is a warrior in the fight for justice. For more information about the club’s speaker visit her website: www.yourMIA.org.

There is no cost of admission: all are welcome for coffee and refreshments at 10:30 a.m. The meeting will start at 11 a.m.

The Coronado Democratic Club meeting is open to all. It is not sponsored by the Coronado Public Library.

If you have any questions or desire additional information please email Susan Marrinan, Coronado Club Vice President, at spfinlay7@gmail.com or visit our website at httpps:coronadodemocrats.com.
