Memorial Day is always a special day in Coronado as we honor those that have served our country and call this community home. Former Naval officer Eric Johnson and his brother Matt chose that day for the official grand opening of their shop Trident Coffee.
Neighbors and visitors alike showed up to support Trident with a long awaited opening, featuring a new sign that carries their logo, with a yoga session before the celebration, and a ribbon cutting with Mayor Richard Bailey in attendance.
“This has been a long time coming,” said Eric Johnson. “We have been working to make the Coronado store a family atmosphere combining the social aspect with having a cup of coffee. San Diegans love their craft businesses and respect their brewers. We take a lot of pride in the products that we sell and our model is based off the craft beer industry.”
Just walking in to Trident makes you quickly realize the creative concept, featuring cold taps similar to a brewery. You receive the richness of a coffee that tastes like it was brewed by the finest beans in the world.
“Cold brew is a new niche,” said Eric Johnson. “We use the same type of brewing equipment to make our cold brew coffee products as are used in a beer brewery. The difference is in the purity of the water, the sources of the coffee beans we buy that contain no pesticides, and we ultimately provide our customers with a rich, smooth flavor”.
Trident’s Coronado Tap Room and Keto bakery has exciting things coming your way as the business grows. They offer Keto donuts and bagels and bakery specials weekly. The Johnson brothers also offer a local and military discount to their customers.
If you can’t make it into the store, you will find their brand sold at various locations around the Island such as Boney’s Bayside Market, the Naval Exchanges, Park Place Liquors & Deli, Central Liquor & Deli, and Avenue Liquors, to name a few.
“The grand opening was an exciting day for us and our employees,” said Eric. “We are looking forward to the 4th of July celebration where we have special things planned for everyone who visits the store that day.”
