Maybe you’ve seen the store front when you were turning off First Street onto C Avenue as you were heading to the orthodontist, the barbershop or somewhere else. You would have noticed it because it is the shop that has a handsome pink flamingo posted in front. But, have you gone inside? Although the flamingo announces the shop as “Postal Unlimited,” inside you find a trove of treasures related to mail, I suppose, but not solely.

When I first popped in to drop off a piece of mail (because it was the most convenient spot to my location on the island/tombolo at the time), I was stunned to see ornaments, gift bags, cards, ribbons, and even cute little pieces of hand-made jewelry, where I had expected a sterile, postal shipping environment. I immediately began quizzing the poor employee behind the counter about how long the store had been there, what services they offer, and what other merchandise they might offer that I didn’t immediately see. I soon found out she was more than the poor employee as she flashed me a big smile and answered all of my increasingly detailed questions. In fact, I had found Courtney Smith, U.S. Marine Corps veteran and business owner of Postal Unlimited.

Smith told me that the business had been in other locations on the island over the years, but at least since she acquired the business in 2016, it has been located at 114 C Avenue. It’s not right on Orange Avenue, so there is a danger that shoppers and shippers might miss it, but it is worth the trip. Smith says that when it comes to shipping packages, she will check every single method of shipping, U.S. postal, FedEx, U.P.S., DHL and even freight, to make sure that you get the best price for your needs.
This time of year, that’s an invaluable service. The good news if you are sending gifts, is that you can also find the best card or gift wrap and ribbon right in the store to add to your package. And, if you haven’t managed to pack it up, Smith says she is highly competitive for labor and packaging costs.

If that weren’t enough, Postal Unlimited also provides mailboxes for those who want their mail to go to an address other than their home or who want their packages to be safe when delivered. Additionally, Smith said there are several services she provides that she especially wants residents to know about: art packing and shipping, mega-print jobs, photo printing (you can email the photos directly to her for printing), business cards and notary services.

What appealed to me was that mom and pop feel that many businesses have been moving away from in Coronado. What might appeal to you is the breadth of services and the prices. But, if you need anything more, ask Smith. She has long been an entrepreneur and owns other businesses, such as a skincare and massage (holistic healing) business.

Postal Unlimited has extended hours during the holiday season, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. during the week and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.
