In the midst of Hotel del Coronado’s multi-phase masterplan renovation, the iconic property has debuted a Legacy Brick program to honor The Del’s storied past during its highly anticipated transition into the future. Long time guests and loyal followers of the resort are now able to interlace themselves in The Del’s legacy with the purchase of a custom-engraved brick paver preserved from The Del’s original 1910 industrial buildings. A portion of the proceeds from the purchase of the bricks will support Save Our Heritage Organization (SOHO) and the Coronado Historical Association (CHA).

“The Del’s historic support buildings are an integral part of the Hotel Del Coronado complex,” said Bruce Coons of Save Our Heritage Organization (SOHO). “The laundry building, ice house and power plant are unique historic assets that enrich the special character of the hotel. The power plant is a part of American history, being the largest of its type in the world when it was built. It retains its original interior, including a grey marble telephone switchboard that still services the hotel today. The ongoing preservation and restoration of these historic buildings, which includes the incorporation of salvaged material, adds immeasurably to this most unique and historic hotel.”

The Legacy Bricks will be thoughtfully integrated into the design of the Legacy Court Terrace at the entrance to The Del’s future Ice House Museum, which will commemorate the Del’s storied past. Prices for the bricks start at $1500 and come with a certificate of authenticity. Buyers will receive an invitation to the opening celebration of the future Ice House Museum.

“The Del is an important partner in helping CHA tell the fascinating and important stories that make Coronado special,” said Christine Stokes, executive director of CHA. “We’re delighted to partner with The Del on its Legacy Brick program. It creates a wonderful way for locals and longtime guests of the hotel to continue their relationship with The Del, and it supports our work as the stewards of Coronado’s unique history.”

The Del has worked closely with its design team, including historic preservation architects, and with the City of Coronado to develop its Master Plan, a roadmap of The Del’s future that will preserve, revitalize, and produce new aspects of the property. Implementation of the Master Plan is currently in process, and is scheduled for completion in late 2021.
