There is a new “place to be” in Coronado on Thursday evenings. Food Truck Thursday at the Coronado Island Marriott Resort & Spa is a great way to transition back to community events and summer evenings. It’s outdoors, family friendly, and easy to get to. It’s set up on the Skyline Terrace open space adjacent to the bayside walkway, so most locals ride bikes or walk, although the resort offers complimentary parking.
The event was originally created to give resort guests something to do when many businesses were shut down. The first one was held on May 20 and it didn’t take long for locals to discover the fun.
“After such a tough year for so many, we are just so excited to be able to offer an outdoor space where the community can connect with each other again while enjoying some great music, food and that breathtaking bay and city skyline view Coronado is known for!” said Indira Guevara, Director of Event Planning at the Marriott.
The food trucks rotate weekly and feature a variety of options from places like Z’s Sushi, Taco Love, San Diego Sliders, The Groovy Greek, Born in Brooklyn, Cali Cream Homemade Ice Cream, Urbn Pizza, Devil Dog BBQ, Lelani’s Hawaiian, and others. In addition to the food trucks there is beer and wine available, communal tables, and music provided by DJ Tee Lynn, and occasionally her band Mayday.
The event is open to anyone and runs from 5 to 8 p.m. every Thursday through Aug. 26. Usually 150-200 people come through so expect some lines at peak times, but the setting and music are great, and chances are good that you will run into friends and neighbors to catch up with while you wait. For those who want to get an early start, Albaca at the Marriott has happy hour from 3 to 6 p.m.
