Five Coronado Island hotels generously offered complimentary stays to incentivize shoppers to make the most of the Holiday Sidewalk Sale on Dec 5 and 6, and now the lucky contest winners have been announced!
“Calling prize winners is definitely a perk of the job,” said the Chamber’s Communications Manager Belinda Jones. “The surprise and delight from the recipients is the good kind of contagious and it was encouraging to hear just how dedicated Coronado residents are to shopping local. Emily Pender - who won a two-night stay at the Coronado Island Marriott Resort & Spa - made sure even her Christmas cards were designed by a local artist!”
“2020 has come with some unexpected silver linings but this prize is a platinum lining!” Emily enthused.
Equally thrilled was Melissa Motush who won an extra special night in the Penthouse Suite of the Glorietta Bay Inn - perfect timing as she and her husband are currently celebrating their fifth Wedding Anniversary. “This news has made my month, thank you so much!”
Hayley Beard, who submitted the most receipts (8), is 27 weeks pregnant and can’t wait to spend her Baby Moon at the Hotel Del Coronado. “I was just touring the Del to see the holiday decorations and said to my husband, ‘How cool would it be if we won the stay here!’ I can’t believe our good fortune!”
Kelli Knapp was especially excited to be holiday shopping for her 18 month old baby girl Penelope, also known as Poppy. “We found some great gifts for her at Geppetto’s Toys and now we can add playtime at the pool at the Loews Coronado Bay Resort - what a treat!”
Julie Shaffer, who happily won a two nights stay at the historic El Cordova Hotel, particularly enjoyed being able to shop safely outside. “I hope we host more Sidewalk Sales on Coronado. We are so lucky to have the sunshine to make this possible, even in winter!”
Executive Director Sue Gillingham agrees and was delighted with the response to the contest, which required entrants to submit their receipts in return for a ticket in the draw. “We received over $3,600 in receipts spent across a range of 28 different businesses on Orange Avenue. Local support is vital to keeping our businesses going right now and we want to thank the hotels for being so generous with their prizes, even when they are being hit so hard by the lockdown.”
The Chamber would also like to extend their gratitude to everyone who is shopping local this holiday season, especially Peggy Curtain, Suzanne Hollingsworth, Cyndi Fuhrman, Log Floom and Anna Matthews, who have been shopping up a storm!
With just a few more shopping days to go, remember to keep putting your money where your heart is!
