The 29th Annual RADM James G. Prout III Memorial Golf Tournament will take place at 12:30 p.m. on Aug. 23 at Naval Air Station North Island’s Sea ‘N Air Golf Course.

VADM Richard A. Brown, Kathy Prout, members of Anchor Scholarship Foundation and the San Diego-chapter of the Surface Navy Association (SNA), local business leaders, and active duty and retired military members will gather after the tournament end at 5:30 p.m. to celebrate the first, second and third place winners, as well as to award the 2019-2020 RADM James G. Prout III Scholarship to Calvin Cox. Cox is a freshman, pursuing a business degree from the University of California – Berkley.

“Thank you so much for the scholarship, as living in the Bay Area can be very expensive so the financial support will allow me to focus on my academics. I really appreciate your support, and I’m very excited to start my college experience!”

While serving as Commander of the USS Carl Vinson Strike Group, RADM Prout was involved in an F/A 18 Hornet mishap on May 17, 1995 where he and the pilot of the aircraft tragically lost their lives. After his passing, his wife, Kathy Prout, his dear friends, and the San Diego-chapter of SNA came together to honor his legacy by establishing the RADM James G. Prout III Scholarship.

Funded by the San Diego-chapter of SNA through this annual golf tournament, the scholarship is administered and awarded annually by Anchor Scholarship Foundation to a deserving Surface Navy dependent (spouse or child) from San Diego County.

Anchor Scholarship Foundation’s mission is to make college more affordable for US Surface Navy families by providing scholarships to spouses and children. In 2019, ASF awarded over $105,000 to 44 deserving scholars for their upcoming 2019/2020 school year. ASF has awarded over $1.3 million dollars since its inception in 1981.
