From Thanksgiving through New Year’s day we enter a frenzy of shopping both on line as well as at our local malls and shops.

We of the Senior Volunteer Patrol (SVP) and the Coronado Police Officers in general want to remind you that it is also the season of the porch thief and other unwanted guests. Be on the look out.

If you shop on-line try to have your deliveries made when you can be there to receive your package. If you work elsewhere during the day can you have delivery at your workplace? The porch thieves are out and about even in Coronado. We at the SVP are extremely vigilant during these months as we patrol the residential areas of Coronado.

For the holiday shoppers at the malls here are a few tips. Keep your wallet or purse protected. Do not give the pick pocket or purse snatcher an opportunity to put you on our victim list.

Of particular note to our women shoppers – be aware. Take your car keys out and put in your hand before you leave the last store and head to the parking garage or lot. Check your surroundings before you get to your vehicle. If you are shopping in the evening, park in a well lit area. Better to be safe than sorry.

Meanwhile happy shopping and remember, if you are leaving town during the holidays we will be here to provide your daily house checks until you return, up to 30 days at any given time.
