SCEDC 29th Annual Economic Summit Is This Friday

More than 600 business and community leaders are expected to attend this year’s summit, which will begin with a welcome session as well as opening messages from the event’s morning speakers, Hon. Jesus Mario Chacon Carrillo, Mexican Ambassador, and Captain Douglas J. Bradt, Retired U.S. Navy, representing the USS Midway.

A panel of elected officials, including Baja California State Congressman Luis Moreno; City of Chula Vista Mayor Mary Casillas-Salas; National City Mayor Alejandra Sotelo-Solis; City of Imperial Beach Mayor Serge Dedina; City of Ensenada Mayor Armando Ayala Robles; Port of San Diego Commissioner Rafael Castellanos; City of San Diego Councilmember Vivian Moreno; and Coronado Councilmember Bill Sandke will speak on issues impacting our region and other current events.

An economic panel will include Gary H. London, Senior Principal at London Moeder Advisors; Kelly Cunningham, Senior Economist for the San Diego Institute for Economic Research; Phil Blair, Owner and Executive Officer of Manpower; and Ray Major, Chief Economist at SANDAG, will speak to South County and the region’s economy, and the impact the workforce has on them.

The event will conclude with messages from the keynote speakers, State Treasurer Fiona Ma, California’s 34th State Treasurer and the first woman of color and first woman Certified Public Accountant elected to the position – and San Diego homegrown Dr. Connie Mariano, former White House Physician for nine years and for three sitting American Presidents, chosen by President William Clinton to serve as his personal physician, and the first military woman in American history to be appointed White House Physician in 1992.

The event will take place on Friday, Sept. 13 at the San Diego Convention Center, Room 6 A-B, 111 W. Harbor Drive San Diego.
