Memorial Day Tribute ...

Building the pieces of a special Memorial Day tribute, one by one. City of Coronado cinematographer Tony Perri, right, is seen here at Star Park interviewing Chuck Lucas, ranking officer at Coronado VFW Post 2422.

Coronado Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 2422 and the City of Coronado have been working hard all week to produce a half hour digital tribute to Memorial Day.

Historically, the VFW gathers at Star Park to honor our fallen warriors, as they have for decades on this special occasion. This year, with the presence of the Coronavirus disease, officers at the VFW, along with staff and elected officials at the City of Coronado, will be producing a 30-minute Memorial Day tribute, which will air on the City of Coronado’s government access channel, beginning this Monday, May 24, Memorial Day.

This unique and new video project is being produced by local cinematographer Tony Perri, in conjunction with the VFW (Coronado Post 2422) and the City of Coronado; the United States Navy League, Coronado Council and Military Officers Association of America (Silver Strand Chapter); as well as the Marine Corps League (Coronado Detachment).

The special videotaped program of the Memorial Day Ceremony can be viewed on Coronado TV (Spectrum 19/AT&T 99) on Memorial Day, May 25, at 10 a.m. Programming for the City of Coronado’s government access channel is also accessible at www.coronado.ca.us.

It will be replayed in the weeks following the holiday.
