The United States Section of the International Boundary and Water Commission (USIBWC) has scheduled a public meeting of the USIBWC Citizens Forum on March 4, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. PST via webinar. The meeting will cover an introduction by Mayor Todd Gloria, advocacy efforts for the region, and USIBWC activities in San Diego.
Todd Gloria, Mayor, City of San Diego, will introduce himself to the USIBWC, Citizens Forum Board Members, and attending participants, to share his commitment of addressing and improving environmental quality and public health in the region that has been impacted by transboundary flows, to include trash and sediment.
Nora Vargas, Vice Chair, Supervisor for District 1, County Board of Supervisors, will discuss her advocacy efforts to ensure the $300 million secured as part of the United States - Mexico - Canada Agreement (USMCA) are allocated to the region for border infrastructure.
Xochitl Aranda, Acting Principal Engineering, USIBWC, will discuss the purchase of equipment and use of equipment, when it is able, by the USIBWC as part of the agreement for the Stay Order in the litigation case with the USIBWC and the State of California and other parties. During the Stay of litigation, the USIBWC will keep the public informed of ongoing efforts to mitigate transboundary flows in the San Diego area, reporting this information at our Citizen’s Forum meetings.
The purpose of the Citizens Forum is to promote the exchange of information between the USIBWC and the community about Commission projects and related activities.
