Almost 25 years ago a Senior Volunteer Patrol unit (more commonly known as the SVP) was organized at the Coronado Police Department under the direction of Officer Kevin Shank. He is now Lt. Kevin Shank, still with the Coronado Police Department and the SVP is still in operation, as a thriving, effective part of the department.

Police Chief Chuck Kaye recently said “Our Senior Volunteer Patrol is an integral part of the Coronado Police. Without the program we would not be able to provide the level of public safety services currently expected by our community. The SVP not only raise the bar for service in Coronado, but help fill the gaps at events across the county.”

With that in mind a new SVP column will be appearing in the Eagle Journal on a regular basis providing information on services the the SVP offer to the community as well as tips on staying safe, changes in the law and other news worthy notes.
