You may have noticed new faces of Police Senior Volunteer Patrol (SVP) members joining our regular daily patrols or on foot patrol in the busy business district this summer. They are some of the six new graduates from Academy 20 completed recently. We are fortunate to have such a group of eager, well trained and well qualified members to join the SVP in keeping the community safe. Not only have they begun patrol but they have actively participated with the July 4th parade, recent races, accident scenes and most recently the visit from our Vice President.

We are happy to say that we are already starting preparations for Academy 21 which we anticipate will take place in October. Are you over 50, interested in giving back to the community and physically able? Our SVP director would be happy to discuss your role in our unit as we move forward. He can arrange for a ride along, time to discuss the program more fully, answer your questions and provide you with the necessary paper work to get you enrolling in our next class. Feel free to contact program director John Meyers at 619-319-0861 or e-mail jmeyers@coronado.ca.us. We look forward to seeing some of you in October.

Meanwhile have a safe and sane summer here in Coronado. Safe and sane in a beach front community means being careful both at the beach as well as out and about in Coronado.

Follow the lifeguard’s directions while at the beach, prepare yourself to avoid sunburn, stay hydrated. On the road be sure to wear your bicycle helmet and follow the rules of the road. If you are driving a vehicle be sure to look around you for that unexpected pedestrian traffic. Enjoy the summer concerts and other events happening in Coronado this year.
