Summer and vacation time are now upon us. Keeping that in mind, over the next several weeks, we will try to provide you with information that will help you get through the summer and the months to follow.

Did you know that the SVP provides you with vacation house checks? This is a service which we have made available to our citizens and still remains unknown to many in our community. The service is available at any time, vacation or business trip. Whatever your needs are. We will come by on patrol, on a daily basis up to 30 days at a time, checking doors, windows, looking for possible broken screens and other items as well. This is not a once a year service, but can be utilized by our residents as needed.

We are there to try once again to keep your home safe during your absence, remove newspapers thrown on the front lawn, notify any responsible party you designate of mail that may be delivered and any other unusual incident that may occur. Vacation House check forms are available to you at the front desk at the Coronado Police Department or may be obtained on line as well. When you have completed the form it should then be returned to the police department to be reviewed and submitted, at least a day or two before your anticipated departure. It will then be turned over to the SVP for service.

We remind everyone to complete the form fully. Although it is only one page, be sure to designate a responsible party who is local and would have a key to the house in most instances. In case of a problem we would call that party to pick up mail, etc.

We look forward to seeing your name on our vacation house check list in the near future.

NOTE: A word of caution: Many of you are frequently on social media. Post your pictures and talk about your trip after you return. This way you are not advertising to the criminal element that your house is vacant for a certain period of time. Your friends will enjoy the photos and information just as much without following your trip and provide just one more way the wrong element will not have access to your property.
