The City is excited to announce that Coronado Junior Lifeguards is back. Dates for required swim tests and the program have been announced. A swim test is required prior to registering for Junior Lifeguards. The City made the difficult decision last year to cancel the entire Junior Lifeguards and Surf Awareness program due to the pandemic and restrictions on gatherings. This year, the City is able to provide the Junior Lifeguard program to those ages 9 to 17. The Surf Awareness will not be held this summer due to staffing issues. The City hopes it will return next year.

The Junior Lifeguard program will look different this year. Classes will be split into three age groups and broken down into cohorts groups with one instructor for every 10 students. Students are required to wear a mask unless in the water and pass a health screening daily.

The program is a great way for young people to spend the summer. It is designed to teach environmental awareness, ocean safety, CPR and first aid in an exciting and interesting environment. Registration for residents begins May 5 and for nonresidents May 19.
