May is National Bike Month. Coronado will celebrate National Bike Month by encouraging the community to bike to work or school, and to log miles with the San Diego Association of Government’s iCommute program. Participants also can attend one of the many bicycling events planned for Bike Month in Coronado. Join the City in any and all the planned events or just ride your bike. Coronado is proud to have been designated as both a Bicycle Friendly Community and a Bicycle Friendly Business (City Hall) at the silver level by the League of American Bicyclists. Bike month activities in May include:
• Bike to School Day: Thursday, May 9
• Mayor’s Ride: Saturday, May 11, at 12:30 p.m.
• Bike to Work Day: Thursday, May 16
• Coronado Bikes to the Movies: Families are invited to ride their bikes to Tidelands Park on Friday, May 17, to see a free showing of “Mary Poppins Returns.” The City will have free pre-screen bike activities starting at 6:30 p.m., including a mini-bicycle rodeo, walk-up bike mechanics and a Bike to Spin Prize Wheel. The movie begins at 8 p.m. Families are encouraged to bring a picnic, chairs and jackets or blankets. Coronado Bikes to the Movies is sponsored by the City of Coronado, the San Diego Association of Governments, the San Diego Bicycle Coalition and Holland’s Bicycles. As part of the Coronado Movies on the Bay series, this outdoor movie is sponsored by the Port of San Diego Tidelands Activation Program. For more information, call 619-522-7342.
