Question:

The CUSD School Board plans to assemble a committee of school system stakeholders to put together and execute an Equity Action Plan. If you had the power to choose one member of this committee, who would it be - and why?

Answer:

I would choose Tania Luviano for the Equity Action Plan committee. She is an award-winning investigative journalist, proud mom of two boys in CUSD schools, and is deeply involved in our Coronado community. In 2019, she hosted the Coronado School Foundation’s annual telethon. I believe her innate curiosity and instincts as a journalist coupled with her pleasant demeanor make her ideally suited to seek the truth and build consensus on the most difficult of issues. She works with various news organizations and presents bilingual content reflecting various communities in greater San Diego. As a professional speaker, Ms. Luviano has a passion for storytelling and giving a voice to the sometimes voiceless. She uses her own voice to empower others to use their experiences and every day lives to identify their assets and strengths. Ms. Luviano is exactly the person we need to bring perspective and help find common ground.
