During this season of “peace on earth and good will to all,” it is sobering to remember that people filled with hate are terrorizing others with acts of vandalism, verbal and physical aggression, and threats. Their hatred of those different from themselves affects and infects all of us.

These acts of domestic terror impact the victims, their families and friends, and all of our communities. There are examples of hate motivated incidents everywhere and they are on the rise.

Join a panel of experts on Jan. 11 to discuss hate crimes in the U.S. and San Diego, their impact, how we can address these incidents and what we can do to help heal from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Winn Room of the Coronado Library, 640 Orange Avenue. This roundtable discussion will be moderated by Mark Sauer, host of the Roundtable on KPBS TV/radio, a weekly discussion of the latest top news stories.

Joining him will be: Lilia Velasquez, attorney, award winning activist, San Diego Women’s Hall of Fame 2017 and adjunct professor at California Western School of Law; Leonard Trinh, attorney and head of the San Diego District Attorney’s Hate Crime Unit, prosecutor in the Chabad of Poway shooting case and the Escondido Mosque arson case, vice chairperson of the San Diego Regional Hate Crimes Coalition and chair of the Regional Law Enforcement Intelligence Committee; and Rick Barton, attorney and adjunct professor of Law University of San Diego School of Law, member of Global Advisory Counsel, Anti-Defamation League.

This meeting is not sponsored by the Coronado Library. It is free and all are welcome. If you have questions or desire additional information, please contact Susan Marrinan at spfinlay7@gmail.com.
