Coronado businesses help community organizer Colonel Michael Wastila USMCR kick-off this year’s Toys for Tots campaign. Official Coronado toy donation sites are VFW Post 2422 located at 557 Orange Avenue, Ascent Real Estate located at 944 Orange Ave., Business Products Express located at 1019 C Avenue, and Crown City Cigars located at 1136 Loma Avenue. Please bring a new, unwrapped toy to any collection site from now until Wednesday, Dec. 18. Your thoughtfulness will help make a difference in the lives of San Diego County’s most needy children this Christmas season.

This year marks the 72nd year of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program. It was originated in 1947 by a group of Reservists that collected and distributed toys to needy children of Los Angeles on Christmas Eve. The program has grown over the years to become the Marine Corps’ premier community action program and one of the nation’s flagship holiday charitable causes.

Special appreciation is extended to the VFW and Marine Corps League who have teamed up to hold a Chili Contest toy drive and fund raiser on Friday, Nov. 15 at the VFW; to Coronado Men’s Golf Club who will be conducting a toy drive in connection with their annual Past Presidents Memorial golf tournament on the morning of Saturday, Dec. 7; to the Rotary Club of Coronado who will be conducting a toy drive in connection with their annual Holiday Party on Wednesday, Dec. 18; and to Seacoast Commerce Bank for their financial support and hosting additional toy donation sites off Island.

Happy Holidays and Semper Fi!
