Well Howdy Pilgrim! The popular Coronado Island Film Festival’s Classic Movie Series returns next week with a good old fashioned John Wayne Western!
The 1969 box office favorite, “True Grit,” stars John Wayne as U.S. Marshall Rooster Cogburn who, eye patch and all, will ride onto the big screen at Coronado’s beloved Village Theatre, 820 Orange Avenue, on Wednesday evening, Nov. 24 at 5 p.m.
As loved ones gather for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, this is the perfect “night-before-turkey-day” family outing. The film garnered Wayne the first and only Oscar of his long career of 142 starring roles. Directed by Henry Hathaway, the cast features Kim Darby, Robert Duvall, Dennis Hopper, Jeff Corey, Strother Martin and Glenn Campbell, who sings the Oscar-nominated title song.
Coming on the heels of the whirlwind 5-day, sixth-year festival Nov. 11-14, organizers Merridee Book and Doug St. Denis are still in awe of, and beyond grateful for, the outpouring of community support and involvement in this festival. Says Book, “Visiting filmmakers and film lovers were unanimous in their comments about the warmth and hospitality of this town. That makes us so very proud.”
Tickets to “True Grit” are $15 and may be purchased at coronadofilmfest.com.
