Richard was a longtime Coronado resident living part time since 1972, then moving permanently to the city he loved in 1990.

Over the years he wrote many humor columns for newspapers around the United States, including the San Diego Weekly News, the Coronado Journal, as well as the Coronado Eagle. His column “Bludering On” was published for over 25 years.

He was an award winning play write of over 25 plays, many of which were performed in San Diego at the Fritz Blitz, the Muse Theater and other theaters and Universities around the country.

He was born in La Crosse, Wisconsin and attended the University of Wisconsin where he went on to get his Masters and PHD in Communications and Theater.

He was a college professor at Wesleyan University in Connecticut and then spent over 25 years as Chairman of the Speech and Communications Department at Denison University in Granville, Ohio before retiring.

In retirement, he volunteered for years by teaching many creative writing classes in Coronado and as he hoped, spawned an interest in would be writers everywhere.

He is survived by his 2 sons, Kyle Markgraf of San Diego and Eric Markgraf, 2 grandchildren, Jackson and Sophia, and Daughter-In-Law Laura Markgraf all of Manhattan Beach, California.
